Frequently asked questions

Does an extension need planning permission?

Some smaller single storey extensions can be built under permitted development rights without a full planning application, within limits on size and position. Larger extensions, and extensions to listed buildings or houses in conservation areas, usually need permission. Cornwall Council can confirm what applies to your house.

Can you extend a listed building?

Yes, with listed building consent from Cornwall Council as well as any planning permission. Listed building work is one of our specialisms.

Can the extension match my house?

We choose brick, stone and render to tie the extension in with the existing house, and can advise on what will suit it.

Do you do the plastering on an extension?

Yes. Internal and external plastering is part of what we do, so the extension is boarded, plastered and rendered without bringing in another firm.

Do you do smaller brickwork jobs?

Yes. As well as extensions we build garden walls and porches, and carry out brickwork repairs, alterations and repointing.

Do you only work on listed buildings?

No. Most of our extensions, brickwork and pointing are on ordinary houses that are not listed. Listed buildings are one specialism among the work we do.
