Home/Internal and External Plastering

Internal and external plasterers in Cornwall

We do both internal and external plastering on all types of property: boarding and skimming inside, render systems and render repairs outside. That covers modern houses, new builds, extensions, refurbishments and older stone buildings across Cornwall, including the vaulted rooms of the property featured on Escape to the Country.

Plastering services

Skimming

Walls and ceilings skimmed to a smooth finish ready for decorating, over existing plaster or new board.

Boarding and skim

Stud walls and ceilings boarded, the joints taped and the whole surface skimmed.

Vaulted ceilings and awkward shapes

Sloping ceilings, roof glazing reveals, arches and angles finished cleanly, as in the vaulted rooms on the Escape to the Country project.

External render systems

Render systems applied to houses, extensions and outbuildings to protect the walls and give an even, weatherproof finish.

Render repairs

Cracked, blown and patched render cut out and repaired so the repair matches the wall around it.

Older stone buildings

Plaster and render chosen for solid stone walls, which need to be able to dry out.

Frequently asked questions

Do you do both internal and external plastering?

Yes. Inside we board and skim walls and ceilings. Outside we render walls and repair existing render.

How long before I can decorate new plaster?

New plaster has to dry out fully before it is painted, which usually takes a few weeks depending on the thickness, the time of year and how well the room is ventilated. It turns from dark to an even pale colour as it dries. The first coat should be a thinned mist coat.

Can you plaster over old plaster?

Often, yes. Sound old plaster can be prepared and skimmed. Where it is loose, blown or crumbling, it is better taken off and the wall plastered again from the background.

Can old stone walls be rendered?

Yes, but the render has to suit the wall. Solid stone walls need a render that lets moisture out. A hard cement render on an old stone wall can trap damp behind it.

Do you plaster single rooms?

Yes. Jobs range from a single ceiling or room to every wall in a renovation or new build.
